Microsoft Gatineau: Worth A Look?

Microsoft announced the beta version of its Web analytics software — Gatineau — in October. Like Yahoo’s Panama, Microsoft is focusing its technology primarily on its AdCenter service.

What everyone wants to know is: How does Gatineau compare to Google Analytics? Phil Kemelor, a contributing analyst over at CMS Watch is offering some initial insights.

For all the promised bells and whistles, he concludes, the help system might be one of the most valuable. That’s an interesting insight, especially considering how few really understand how to generate actionable reports from web analytics. That’s a must if the technology is going to penetrate deeper into the consumer market.
